Thompson backing Ronaldo to shine

Cristiano Ronaldo has been backed for the golden boot by Thompson

St Andrews is the venue for Manchester City this weekend as they look to make it two straight wins at the expense of Birmingham City. The midweek 3-1 win over Rochdale leaves City just 2 points from league leaders Coventry City but with tomorrows visitors Birmingham just behind them in 4th place Thompson and City know they will have to be at their absolute best to take anything away.
The midweek win over Rochdale saw Portuguese attacker Cristiano Ronaldo score twice taking his tally to seven goals from just six league games and City boss Thompson has backed his man to take the golden boot this season after his impressive start to life at the Etihad.

Manchester City team news:

City once again came through their latest game without any injury concerns and could name the same side from the win over Rochdale. Aleksandr Kokorin and Iker Munian continue to impress from the bench but they will have to remain patient as they wait for their first team chance.

Thompson's pre match thoughts......

"It's another tough trip for us against a side i fancy to do well this season. Birmingham have started the season in decent form and will fancy it on their own patch so it's up to us to go out and keep the crowed quiet right from the off our win in midweek certainly gave us some confidence back but we need to be putting results together and getting ourselves back to the top of then table.

It's nice to once again have a full compliment of players to pick from, we always have to leave some top class players on the bench which is tough but Luis has promised me a tough evening for my boys so it could give dome of the boys who have been on the bench recently a chance to get some game time.

I expect an entertaining match tomorrow it certainly wont be easy but if my boys bring their A game i know we can get the result we need. Cristiano Ronaldo has been in magnificent form over the past few games and he can certainly win the golden boot if he can maintain his form. He is a massive player for us and he will be looking to get one over his fellow countryman in Luis Veigas and Nani"
