Tykes complete Fletcher signing

Steven Fletcher has joined Barnsley from Fulham

Division 3 promotion chasers Barnsley have today announced the signing of 26 year old Scotland international Steven Fletcher. The striker put pen to paper on a 2 year deal at Oakwell after Barnsley and Fulham agreed a fee in the region of £6.5 million.
Fletcher had found first team opportunities limited at Craven Cottage making just 2 league appearances for Dom Latouche's side all season scoring one goal and he will now be hoping he can help Barnsley over the line as they chase promotion to division 2.

Speaking to the press about his new signing manager Barnsley manager Steve Thompson had this to say.

"I am delighted to get this deal done. It has all come out of the blue but once i knew Steven was available i wanted to get it done. We have cut numbers from our squad in recent weeks especially in the striking department but when a player of Steven's calibre becomes available you can't pass it up.

I have to thank Dom (Fulham manager) for getting this done quickly. He has always been first class whenever we have dealt together and you never know more players from Fulham could ply their trade here in the future"

Steven Fletcher also spoke to the media after signing his contract.

"It's a fantastic move for me. Barnsley are a club that are always fighting for promotion every season and i hope to be able to have a positive impact in the remaining games and help the club into division 2.

Despite not playing a lot at Fulham i enjoyed my time there. The gaffer was a pleasure to work with and he has been first class over me moving on.
I wish Fulham nothing but the best and hope that they achieve their dream of winning the title this season. It would be a dream come true to celebrate promotion here and a title win at Fulham"
