Chesterfield complete record signing of Norwich winger Pablo Hernandez; Sulejmani departs
Spanish winger Pablo Hernandez is
delighted to join ‘special club’ Chesterfield
Chesterfield have completed the signing of Norwich City winger
Pablo Hernandez for a club record $8.5 million. In a week where influential
playmaker Miraleum Sulejmani departed for Portugal, Chesterfield have eased the
fans worst fears by signing the highly coveted Spanish playmaker putting pen to
paper on a four year deal with the Spireites.
The addition will boost Chesterfield’s relegation battle
hopes but he will be watching in the stands as he is serving a three match
suspension after he picking up a straight red card while playing for Norwich
City. Known for his great technical ability, it is hoped that Hernandez will
play a crucial playmaking role and seen as the successor to replace the
departed Miraleum Sulejmani.
The hastiness of Sulejmani’s departure suggests that
there may be some truth to the rumours of a rift between the Serbian starlet
and manager Glory Days. Sulejmani was reportedly unhappy with the training
methods employed by manager Glory Days and the Chesterfield board were quick to
move the petulant star on.
Hernandez, 28 voiced his
desire to leave Carrow Road after it was announced there would be a clear out
by manager Rutts after gaining promotion into Division Three and that Hernandez
would be moved on. Chesterfield was quick to seal the signature of the
experienced Spaniard who played for the likes of Arsenal, West Ham and
Sheffield United.
Manager Glory Days was ecstatic
to his new signing
“On behalf of the club, we
would like to welcome Pablo (Hernandez) to Chesterfield. He’s a talented,
talented footballer who has experience of playing in every division in England
and he would help the younger guys in our team get mentally and physically
prepared for games. His technique, ability to dribble past players with pace,
pinpoint passing and eye for a through ball will all be valuable assets”
“Chesterfield would like to
thank Miraleum Sulejmani to his contribution to our team with 49 appearances
and helping us to a playoff spot last season and helping us through the
relegation battle, we wish him the best of luck in Portugal”
Spanish winger Hernandez
echoed Glory Days enthusiasm in joining an up and coming club
“I’m excited to be here and
I can’t wait to start playing for the team. When I played against Chesterfield
a season ago, I was impressed by the way they passed the ball and their ability
to exploit little mistakes. Chesterfield is a special club with a good mix of
youngsters and experienced players; I think I will fit in well here.”
Questioned whether the big
transfer fee would put pressure on his performances
“No, it doesn’t. Everywhere
I have gone, the fans have had high expectations of me and here in
Chesterfield, it is no different. Sulejmani was a fan favourite; I will do my
utmost to make the crowd cheer for more”
