Terrific Tykes tame Wolves

Division three promotion hopefuls Barnsley tonight sent out a clear message to the rest of the division after they battered Well fancied Wolves 6-2 at Molineux. The home side were expected to be to strong for Steve Thompson's men but the Tykes not for the first time upset the odds and piled the pressure on Wolves boss Aiden Radford who remains without a win in 8 competitive games stemming back from last season.

Despite his disappointment at his sides weekend 2-2 draw at home to Dagenham Thompson named the same starting XI  and his players repaid the faith inside 30 minutes stunning the 19,000 plus inside the stadium by taking the lead thanks to a fine long range strike from French defender Loïc PERRIN 0-1. Molineux fell silent following the goal but within 6 minutes it was back in full voice as Wolves leveled the game through striker Nikica JELAVIĆ who's delicate flick with the outside of the foot beat Ochoa in goal 1-1. Many would have expected the home side to take the game to the Tykes but it wasn't to be and and with 38 minutes on the clock Barnsley were back in front this time through Frenchman Romain HAMOUMA who's hopeful punt from range flew past Trapp and into the net 1-2. Thompson's could smell blood and they took full advantage making it 1-3 two minutes before half time Romain HAMOUMA again the scorer nodding home from 6 yards past Trapp.

Wolves cam out after the break with Radfords words still ringing in their ears but whatever was said didn't have the effect as within 4 minutes of the 2nd half it was 1-4 to Barnsley Romain HAMOUMA was the toast of the away end netting his hatrick goal with a bullet header that had Trapp rooted to the spot.
The boos were ringing out around the stadium with Wolves looking devoid of ideas but with 56 gone the home side reduced the arrears Nikica JELAVIĆ bagging his second of the match with a fierce drive past the hapless Ochoa 2-4.
That goal didn't have any effect on the visitors and within a minute they restored their 3 goal advantage thanks to Austrian midfielder Marko ARNAUTOVIC who who placed the ball into the bottom corner after a neat first touch 2-5. The white flag was truly been waved by the home side with Molineux emptying at a rapid pace and with 10 minutes of the game remaining Barnsley completed the rout Argentine striker Maxi LÓPEZ making it 2-6 with a blistering effort which flew past Trapp before he could move.

At the full time whistle Wolves boss Aiden Radford was subjected to a torrent of abuse as he made for the tunnel while his counterpart Steve Thompson heard his name sung from the jubilant travelling support.

Speaking after the game Thompson said .......

"It was a truly wonderful performance and one that has been coming for sometime. The result sends out a clear message to the rest of the division that we mean business and that on our day we can destroy any team in the league.
Despite the result Wolves are a good side and i expect them to challenge at the top end of the table. Aiden is going through a tough period at the minute but once he gets that first win i think they will push on and climb the table.

We now look ahead to another away game against QPR which will be tough but we go there full of confidence and determined to build on what has been a decent start to the season"
