Gray season for The Reds

Gray season for The Reds

Average could be the word to describe Barnsley's latest season. Taking only 1 point out of the last 5 games, The Reds ended up 12th place in Div3 with 50 points, 10 points away from relegation and 11 points away from playoffs.

"We have a good working group, with a lot of ambition despite the experience. We definitely lack in depth and some youngster irreverence, both things that we need to work on." said Marcos in the new season press conference. "Unfortunately no major changes are taking place, mostly because financial health is a real concern for us, so we will have to reinvent ourselves and see where that can take us" he continued.

Regarding transfers, "Ricardo Costa is on the market, as he showed interest in leaving the team, we are open to proposals for him - expecting to make some cash".

"I would also like to take the opportunity to wish good luck to the other teams and managers, now that we are approaching fast the beginning of the competition! Our first official appearance will be at home against Blackpool, team that unfortunately ended up relegated last season. Hard working is in place so we can have a good start!" Marcos ended up saying.

Another difficult and challenging season seems to be ahead for the Oakwell side.

Vitorino named new Barnsley FC manager

After a series of contacts during the past months, Marcos Vitorino has been appointed new manager of Division 3 side Barnsley FC on a one and a half year deal.

During the press conference that followed Vitorino's presentation at Oakwell he told us

"I'm very happy to be here at Barnsley. I had a long conversation this afternoon with Mr. Chairman to get to know the club and the team better. We defined our main goal this season is avoiding relegation. We are six points ahead of the red line and reaching the season's half. There's a lot of work to do but I think it's manageable.

The team has some important players injured, suspended and not fit so, our top priority is to be at full power as fast as we can. The group is strong and very experienced and I have confidence that we can do a great job together."

The first game of The Reds under Vitorino's command will be tomorrow at Oakwell against Félix's Gillingham. Both teams managed to get nineteen points until now but with all the present limitations we believe that it will be a tough one for Barnsley FC.

BARNSLEY SWOOP FOR DEFOE

BARNSLEY SWOOP FOR DEFOE

Barnsley have swooped for JERMAIN DEFOE

Having signed PANDEV, Barnsley manager - Craig - saw the opportunity to swoop for DEFOE from MK Dons. It is understood that the deal was a straight swap with Dennis AOGO.

DEFOE scored 21 goals in total for MK Dons and we hope he can produce the same for Barnsley to help better the 6th place - play-off - finish.

Barnsley have now signed 3 players for season 10, ie JONATHAN, PANDEV and DEFOE  - with CIANI and MARIANO moving on.

PANDEV to join BARNSLEY

Barnsley have agreed a deal with Charlton to sign GORAN PANDEV in a swap deal for PIENAAR and £7m

This is a good deal for both clubs and we look forward to welcoming Goran to our squad and wish Pienaar all the best. This will be my 2nd purchase since taking the Barnsley job.
I hope to bring in at least one more player before the new season starts.

JONATHAN joins BARNSLEY

New Barnsley manager - Craig - signed his first player for the club.

CICERO JONATHAN joined Barnsley from Manchester City for £9m. JONATHAN - who can play D DM M (R) - will start in the D(R) position in our next friendly match at home to Crystal Palace.

"I hope to sign a couple more before the new season starts. I am happy to have signed Jonathan who can play in various areas which gives up options.

JONATHAN in action

It's good too see him scoring a fine goal here but His main duties at present will be in defence until we get cover in, then we can play him in midfield where hopefully he can score goals like the one above.

NEW MANAGER AT BARNSLEY

NEW MANAGER AT BARNSLEY

MILLWALL manager - CRAIG - decided to part company with the club to take on the vacant BARNSLEY job.

Craig spent 9 seasons at MILLWALL and  decided that a new fresh challenge was needed .

STATEMENT by CRAIG

"I decided to part company with MILLWALL after 9 seasons and 361 games in charge. I felt that things were getting stale and it was best for myself and for MILLWALL that I departed,
I will always look for Millwall results and hope they can get up to where they belong, however, my loyalties are with Barnsley now. One day after arriving in the Barnsley hot seat, I had a Semi-Final PLAY-OFF match away at Swindon. This was difficult being too soon as I didn't know the players and the likes. Swindon won 1-0 and their keeper was Man of the Match, so maybe on another day, we may have got a result, it wasn't to be this time around though. I will set targets for the new season and hope my players' play to their full potential. I look forward to the challenge ahead which won't be easy with a balance of £1.1m to spend, but we will be there or thereabouts".
