Thompson - Best performance yet

Hulk scored his first goal for Man City since joining from Fulham

Manchester City made a welcome return to winning ways in the league with a 5-0 demolition over Southampton at St Marys on Wednesday evening. Thompson's men had gone two league games without a win which included an embarrassing 6-1 home defeat to Rotherham City's biggest home loss in the league for nearly 4 years.
Last nights result See's City go level on points with West Ham who occupy 2nd position and they are now just 2 points off current league leaders and last weekends opponents Coventry City.

After making wholesale changes for the midweek win in the cup over Leeds United City reverted back to their familiar line up making no changes from their last league game and it payed immediate dividends with City taking the lead inside a minute through Lionel MESSI who fired home a low effort after a fine pass from John Terry 0-1. City made it 0-2 on 13 minutes Lionel MESSI again the scorer with another powerful low effort which silenced the shocked St Marys crowed.
The host were clearly struggling to withstand the class of City and it was 0-3 six minutes later Thomas MÜLLER the scorer this time firing home from range for his first goal of the season.
Southampton did manage to settle things down for a period but with five minutes to go before the break City made it 0-4 Cristiano RONALDO netting his 8th league goal of the season with a neat touch and finish much to the delight of the delirious travelling faithful.

The second half started exactly like the first with City dominating and inside 3 minutes it was 0-5 to Thompson's men thanks to a first ever goal in City colours for Givanildo HULK who profited from the wizardry of Cristiano Ronaldo to place his shot past the helpless Demirel.
That proved to be the final goal of the game despite the best efforts of City and the heroics of Saints keeper Demiral. FULL TIME 0-5.

After the game a delighted Steve Thompson spoke to the media.......

"It was our best performance yet this season it was pretty much faultless especially in the first half and it was exactly what we needed. I have remained loyal to the lads despite the result against Rotherham last week and i am delighted they have paid me back. It's 3 games unbeaten in all competitions we just need to carry this momentum and get a winning run going.

It was good to see Hulk get off the mark, that's a real weight off his shoulders now and hopefully he can get himself a few more goals this season. We have Ronaldo and Messi getting among the goals but if you want to be successful you need them coming from all areas so players like Hulk,Thomas Muller and Angle Di Maria are great players to have.

We now move on and look ahead to our game against Reading at the weekend. We need to put in a good performance at the Etihad and get back winning in front of our own fans to banish the Rotherham game from our memories. Reading will certainly be no pushovers but we are confident hopefully we can replicate tonight's display
