The Big Match

(Match -3 - SAT 29th March 2014)

By Hancock

Fulham [11th] v Tottenham [7th]

    Fulham FORM:    DD
Tottenham FORM:   DW

Fulham haven't really had a bad start to the season as they drew their first 2 games but Dom won't be happy with the start I'm sure and will be hoping to get his first win of the season tonight. Fulham were incredibly wasteful in their last match against Arsenal, converting only 1 of 12 shots on target while their opponents converted 1 from 3. A lot of pressure will be on the new signing - Gonzalo Higuain who was brought in to score goals and fire them to success. The Fulham defence will have a hard time dealing with the Tottenham attackers in my opinion - especially Gareth Bale. It'll be interesting to see what formation Dom opts for tonight to counters Spurs' 4-2-3-1.

Tottenham like Fulham drew their first match of the season but they did manage to get their first win of the season on Wednesday against Leeds (1-0 was the final score). Tottenham's stars - Robin Van Persie and Gareth Bale have been relatively quiet in the first two matches though they were impressive against Leeds. Bale & RVP have been incredible for Tottenham for a long time and are very reliable and I think both of them will have an impressive match tonight. Spurs haven't been at their attacking best but they have certainly been very impressive defensively with 2 cleansheets in their first 2 matches. Tottenham manager Ben is a fan of the 4-2-3-1 formation and rarely uses any other and he has achieved excellent results with this formation. Not many can succeed for a long period of time without switching formations.

KEY PLAYERS

HIGUAIN:   (Fulham)
          BALE: (Tottenham)

If I were to compare the tactical ability of the two managers I think that Ben has the edge over Dom. The match will definitely be a close one and in the end I think it will be decided by a late goal from Gareth Bale

  • Higuain to score for Fulham, Bale to score a brace for Spurs

Prediction:  Fulham 1 Tottenham 2

Chesterfield [1st] v Manchester City [4th]

Chesterfield have started the season with a bang with 2 wins from 2 matches. Their previous 2-1 win at home to Birmingham shocked many. Man City were disappointed with their 1-1 draw at Norwich however, I tip Norwich to be dark the Horse in D3.

TO PLAYERS

Chesterfield
P. HERNANDEZ
A. LALLANA

Man City
L. MESSI
C. RONALDO

  • The home side will need to keep Messi and Ronaldo quiet
  • City need to watch Hernandez and Lallana (D3 Top scorer)

This should be an excellent match but it's difficult to go against City when they have the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and DI MARIA

Prediction:  Chesterfield 1 Manchester City 2
