The Big Match

(Match -36 - WED 26th FEB 2014)

By SIRMARKHUGHES (Dan Malone)

Swansea [4th] v Huddersfield [2nd]

Swansea FORM:   WLLLLW
Huddersfield FORM:  DLDWWD

With Walsall crowned as champions this game is a top attraction as with just six points covering the 2nd-8th position there are still lots of things up for grabs, most notably that 2nd place finish that would guarantee a place in paradise [The Premier].

Swansea have lost just 10 games this season but worryingly for the fans 4 of them have come in the last 5 games, Swansea are not the greatest scorers but Welbeck is on fire with over half of the teams total tally to himself.

Huddersfield's problem this season have been too many draws[most in the division 14] and the lack of goals [lowest scored in top 10] but they have compensated that by having the meanest defence in the division with just 30 goals conceded in the 35 games.

The last game played between the sides in the reverse fixture ended a boring 0-0.

Missing game:

SWANSEA : Candreva & Balzaretti [Inj]
HUDDERSFIELD :Matip & Cuadrado [Susp]

I think this game will be like the reversal very tight affair, managers might take a little more chance though as we are getting down to the wire, a draw would better suit Huddersfield as they have a good goal difference but with the pack closing in they will surely want all three points, to get that though they have to somehow stop Welbeck who is very dangerous, odd goal winner but for who?

Prediction:  Swansea 0 Huddersfield 1

Sheffield Utd [5th] v Watford [19th]

Sheffield Utd FORM:   WDDWDW
Watford FORM:           DDWLWW

This is a very important game as Sheffield United look to bounce straight back up, although they only sit 5th place they are just a mere 2 points of that auto-promotion slot, the implications of this game for Watford are sadly at the other end of the table where they are one of the bottom 4 sides that are split by the margin of just one solitary point.

Sheffield United are on an unbeaten streak of 8 with 4 wins and 4 draws and although they have failed to kill off half the teams during that spell they have scored an average of two a game.

Watford with 3 wins, 3 draws and a defeat in the last seven games have gave themselves a chance of staying up, games are running out though so points are vital to the cause.

Missing game:

SHEFFIELD UTD:   Podolski [Inj]
                              WATFORD:   Larsson & Guidetti [Susp]

The recent head to heads have been two wins for Watford and 1 win for United, all 3 games have been home win.

This for me is a tough game as both know that points are vital at this stage of the campaign, Sheffield United have been scoring for fun through their streak but have hardly had a solid defence so Watford can take hope from that, would either manager be happy with a point?-I am not sure but that is what I think they will have to settle for.

Prediction:  Sheffield Utd 2 Watford 2

Rotherham [4th] v Peterborough [1st]

   Rotherham FORM:  LLWLWL
Peterborough FORM:  LWLDLW

Peterborough ousted Brighton as Division Four leaders with a 2-0 victory over the Albion at London Road. Jack Rodwell and Nathan Dyer were on target on Saturday, and will be hoping to add to their tally against an inconsistent Rotherham side. The Millers come into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Barnsley, however have a fully fit squad to choose from. Nothing could separate the sides earlier in the season, as they played out an enthralling 3-3 draw.

Prediction: Rotherham 0 Peterborough 2

Brighton [2nd] v Swindon [3rd]

   Brighton FORM:  LLDWDL
     Swindon FORM:  LLDWLW

Second placed Brighton will be hoping to regain the top spot with victory over Swindon, for whom defeat will end their hopes of automatic promotion. Brighton will be without the injured Alfred Finnbogason and suspended duo Roberto Lago and Morgan Schneiderlin. Swindon have no injuries but are without
Celustka, Rudnevs and Iturraspe through suspension, and Italian maestro Lorenzo Insigne is a major doubt. Brighton triumphed 2-1 at Swindon in the previous meeting.

Prediction: Brighton 1 Swindon 1

Acc Stanley [8th] v Gillingham [4th]

Acc Stanley FORM:  DDLLLW
    Gillingham FORM:  WWWWLW

This should be a classic encounter with Acc Stanley hoping to get into the play-off position and Gillingham aiming for automatic promotion. Both teams only one point behind their target.

Acc Stanley had a narrow away win (2-3) at lowly Cardiff and Gillingham had a fine home win (3-2) against newly crowned Champions - Norwich.

Predicted Formation

Acc Stanley:  3-5-2
  Gillingham:  3-5-2

No injuries reported by both teams, however, the home team have Chalobah suspended for this match.

I don't see much between the sides but I think an away win is on the cards here.

Prediction:  Acc Stanley 1 Gillingham 2

Hartlepool [6th] v Stockport [9th]

Hartlepool  FORM:  LWLLLD
   Stockport  FORM:  WLWDLW

Hartlepool are in a play-off position at present and are looking to consolidate this. Stockport are only one point away from a play-off position. All to play for here.

Hartlepool HOME Form: W8 D4 L5
Stockport AWAY Form:  W5 D4 L8

  • Neves and Dehn are injured for Stockport
  • Hartlepool have a full squad to select from.

Tough one to predict but I feel that the home side will take the points here.

Prediction Hartlepool 3 Stockport 1
