Thompson hails Parker signing

Scott Parker has signed for Barnsley from Birmingham City

Division three promotion hopefuls Barnsley have once again dipped into the transfer market this time to secure the signature of Experienced midfielder Scott Parker from Birmingham City. Parker 33 only signed for the Blues last season and made a total of 18 appearances scoring 2 goals before Birmingham boss Luis Veigas allowed Parker to link up with Steve Thompson and his Barnsley side.

Parker will be bringing plenty of experience with him to Oakwell having made 232 appearances in 7046 for 5 different clubs including West Ham,Ipswich and Walsall with Parker helping the latter to promotion from division 3 just two seasons ago.

The former England international has been declared fit to play and will be in the squad for the Tykes home fixture against Scunthorpe on Saturday.

On his latest recruit Thompson said.....

"I am delighted to finally land Scott and bring him to Oakwell. Scott is somebody i have chased for sometime but for one reason or another we have never managed to get the deal done but we have and i couldn't be happier. Scott brings with him a wealth of experience and knows what it takes to get out of this division.

Our aim is still to challenge for the league title and to do that you need people who are winners. Scott his certainly a winner and i hope that his attitude will spread to the rest of the squad"

Parker himself was also delighted to link up with the Tykes....

"I couldn't be happier to have signed for the club. I know the gaffer has been trying to bring me here for some time and finally i am here i just can't wait to get going.

I was impressed with the clubs ambitions which certainly match my own. I know how it feels to win promotion from this division and i am hoping come the end of the season i will have that feeling once again"
