Early Season Report

Following a relatively successful spell with Bournemouth, taking them from relegation certainties to mid-table mediocrity, manager Darren Hancock was offered the Doncaster job. Obviously he took the job, being unable to refuse the chance to manage at a higher level & with a better standard of players. Since then, Doncaster have been teeter-tottering with the trap door.

The start of the new season wasn't too kind to the Donny mind. Without a win until the 8th competitive game of the season, things were looking bleak, but 6 goals against Colchester in the Shield eased fears and faith was restored in the side. After that the side won 3 games on the trot and they were lifted from the drop zone. However, a loss against Cardiff on Saturday means they return to the bottom 3.

On the transfer front there has also been a bit of activity. But things aren't as well as they appear with players like Bellamy, Coloccini, Doyle & Ederson yet to hit top form so far this year. The players to watch this season though include Matthew Etherington. The Englishman has got two goals already & had injury not hampered his season to date would surely have got more.

So what are we to expect from Doncaster this year? Goals are a cert, at both ends. Hopefully there'll be a few more deals coming in to help escape the drop once more. Maybe a decent cup run? Who knows? But whatever the case will be, Doncaster are definitely a team slowly, very slowly, on the up.

  1. You couldn't refuse a team in a higher league - good luck it'll be an interesting challenge for you
